Our Work In Carlisle
Our own jobs, photographed on site
Not stock photographs of somebody else's roof
Every photograph below is from a job we have actually done. We would rather show you a smaller, honest set than fill a page with stock images of American roofs, which is what a surprising number of roofing galleries turn out to be.
Conservatory Roof Replacement - Completed
A tired polycarbonate conservatory roof replaced with a fully insulated solid tiled roof, finished with new fascia, soffit and guttering to match the house.
Conservatory Roof Replacement - In Progress
The same job part-way through, with the new structure up and the tiled covering going on. Working in sections keeps the room below weathertight throughout.
New Slate Roof
A new slate covering laid to even courses with a clean ridge line. Small roof, same principles - correct laps, correct fixings, no shortcuts at the edges.
New Fascias, Soffits & Guttering
Rotten timber boards stripped out and replaced, with the guttering rehung to a proper fall towards the outlet rather than refitted to the old bracket holes.
New Tiled Roof With Roof Windows
A rear extension roof tiled and detailed, with two roof windows set in and flashed. The abutment against the existing house wall is where this kind of roof leaks if it is rushed.
New Roof Structure - Ridge & Rafters
New ridge and rafters set out before any covering goes near it. Getting the structure straight and level is what stops a roof looking wavy from the pavement in ten years.
Rafters & Breathable Membrane
Breathable membrane over new rafters. It lets moisture escape from the roof space while keeping water out, which old bitumen felt never did well.
Roof Joists
Joists set out and levelled across new blockwork. Unglamorous, and the part everything above it depends on.
Roof Windows In A Vaulted Ceiling
Roof windows fitted and lined into a vaulted ceiling. The flashing kit around a roof window has to be installed exactly as the manufacturer intends or it will leak.
Roof Windows - Finished
The same pair finished off. Worth showing because this is the detail people actually notice from inside the room.
More Photographs On The Way
Most repair work is genuinely unphotogenic - a renewed lead soaker or a repointed flaunching looks like nothing at all in a picture, which is exactly why it works. We are building up a set of before-and-after pairs from repair jobs and they will go up here as they are done.
What Carlisle Homeowners Say
Feedback from customers across Carlisle and the surrounding villages, on completed roof repair work.
"Water was coming through the landing ceiling of our sandstone terrace in Denton Holme every time the wind came from the west. Two other roofers had patched the spot above the stain and it kept coming back. These lads got up there, found the split lead soaker where the roof meets next door's gable, and that was the end of it. Should have called them first."
"Half a dozen slates came off the back of the house in Stanwix after a rough night. Rang at eight in the morning, someone was on the roof by lunchtime and it was made watertight the same day. Came back later in the week to do it properly with matching slates. No silly emergency pricing either."
"The flat roof over our kitchen extension in Harraby had been patched with felt so many times it was more patch than roof. They stripped it back, sorted the falls out so the water actually runs off, and fitted a rubber roof. First winter with no bucket in the kitchen in about four years."
"Our chimney in Botcherby was letting damp into the back bedroom. What I appreciated was being told the stack itself was sound and only needed repointing and new flashings, rather than being talked into taking the whole thing down. Honest, tidy, and the price on the quote was the price on the bill."
"Gutters on our bungalow out at Dalston were overflowing down the wall and starting to mark the render. They cleared them, replaced a cracked section and refitted the brackets where they had dropped. Explained what had caused it rather than just taking the money and going."
